Non-Permanent Biomaterials Videos
A patient's quality of life is directly linked to the quality of surgical materials used, and both the chemistry of material and the structure of material influence the cell-material interaction which, in turn, propagates a tissue response.
Two types of non-permanent materials commonly used in abdominal surgery are: biologics - defined as tissue-derived materials, and bioabsorbables - or non-tissue derived materials from manufactured polymers.
A bioabsorbable material, such as GORE BIO-A Web, is backed by 15 years of research and clinical use. Gore bioabsorbable material for staple line reinforcement and soft tissue defects feature:
- A unique web structure that serves as a scaffold for tissue generation, which is
gradually absorbed by the body
- Proven polymers with a well-known history of safety
- Synthetic material having no risk of animal or human-source contamination
Created from synthetic polymers, which allow for consistency and uniformity, Gore bioabsorbable materials
have a documented history of safety. As they are not tissue-derived, they are designed to reliably break-down
over a specific timeframe into specific degradation components.
