Carotid artery stenting (CAS) as a viable therapy to treat carotid disease and stroke prevention is growing. One of the limitations of carotid stenting is the risk of liberating embolic particles during the procedure that could cause a stroke or compromise cognitive function. Physicians are looking for a better solution to achieve optimal neuro protection while performing CAS procedures.
The GORE Neuro Protection System enables you to perform carotid interventions with confidence knowing that liberated emboli will be safely directed away from the brain. Flow reversal eliminates the need to cross the lesion unprotected and the associated risks and challenges. Treat a broader group of patients with the confidence of continuous flow reversal.
Flow reversal is achieved at the treatment site by occluding the common carotid and external carotid arteries. By establishing an arterio-venous shunt, blood from the contralateral side via the Circle of Willis and collateral vessels is redirected to the lower pressure venous return. Embolic particles are captured in the external filter.
