Charing Cross International Symposium

Flagstaff, Ariz. and London, England. (April 6, 2013) — W. L. Gore & Associates, Inc. (Gore) today announced the nominees and opening of voting for the 2013-2014 Pioneers in Performance Awards for Europe. Today’s announcement came at the Charing Cross International Symposium in London. Each year, a distinguished group of physicians are honored with the Pioneers in Performance Awards sponsored by Gore. This year’s nominees can be viewed by visiting pioneersinperformance.com/eu/. These physicians have been nominated by their peers for their unrelenting dedication to advancing vascular and endovascular therapy and minimally invasive treatment options for patients worldwide, including aortic and lower-limb bypass and dialysis access surgery.

The academy of past recipients of the Pioneers in Performance selected the nominees; the 2013-2014 honorees will be chosen by ballot. Voting is now open to the medical community and is available via the mobile-optimized online site and at Gore pavilions at major clinical conferences throughout the year. Voting closes February 2014 and ballots are kept confidential. Final winners will be honored at a special reception at the 36th Charing Cross International Symposium.

Professor Roger Greenhalgh, MD, a past recipient of the award and CX Programme Chairman, commented "The Pioneers in Performance is a very welcome feature to the CX series. It is greatly appreciated and considered an integral part of the CX programme."

The academy of past recipients selected nominees across four major categories that reflect a strong and ongoing commitment to improving clinical and patient performance through collaboration. Nominees have demonstrated collaboration as it relates to improving patient and clinical performance: a commitment to ongoing learning, dedication to sharing knowledge with peers and patients, dedication to creating consensus within the medical community, and a dedication to analysis of outcomes.

“Each year, we celebrate those physicians responsible for driving medical innovation and improving clinical and patient outcomes with the Pioneers in Performance program,” said Ryan Takeuchi, Gore Aortic Business Leader. “This year is no exception as we join together to commend the inspiring work of these great physicians across Europe. "We congratulate the 2013-2014 Pioneers in Performance Europe nominees and look forward to seeing who the physician community will honor.”

Gore invites those attending the Charing Cross International Symposium to join them in congratulating the 2013-2014 Pioneers in Performance Europe nominees during a special reception taking place on Saturday, April 6th at 6:00 p.m. in the Gore Club Room at Olympia National Hall.

About 35th Charing Cross International Symposium

In its 35th year, the Charing Cross International Symposium, held in London, is an educational forum, which takes place over four days. The plenary sessions run in a logical sequence starting with carotids and the lower limb on Saturday, the abdominal aorta on Sunday, the thoracic aorta and more carotids on Monday, renals and venous on Tuesday. Once again, a world class faculty discusses controversial topics, challenges the evidence, and takes part in a series of head-to-head debates to reach a consensus after discussion. www.cxsymposium.com.
